🧥 Costume Contest – Rules & Info 🎭

As part of Camp Amberpines, we’re hosting a Costume Contest for VTubers and PNGTubers! This is your chance to showcase a fall-themed, spooky, or surreal design that fits our camp’s core aesthetic: Liminal Spaces.

🔥 Contest Guidelines:

  • Theme: Your costume should reflect liminality — whether visual, emotional, or narrative. That could mean:

    • Visuals inspired by liminal spaces (abandoned campgrounds, flickering malls, midnight gas stations).

    • Character designs that feel caught between identities (child/adult, human/monster, hero/villain).

    • Emotionally “stuck” figures — a magical girl who never grew up, a wanderer who lost time, a smiling mask that doesn’t come off.

  • Formats Accepted: PNGs, VTuber model renders, illustrations, or character sheets.

  • Must be your own model and or design you have the rights to use commercially.

  • Collaborators (e.g., riggers/artists) must be credited, or where you purchased from if off sites like booth.

  • Submission Deadline: September 26th 2025, 11:59pm PDT/UTC-7

  • Winners will be selected based on creativity, use of theme, and originality.

🎁 Winners receive community-commissioned keepsakes and permanent showcase on this site post-event.

What Is Liminality and Liminal Spaces?

Liminality and Liminal Spaces are the soul of,
Camp Amberpines.

It’s not just abandoned buildings or flickering lights. Liminality is emotional, existential, and narrative. It is the threshold between what you were, and what you are becoming — a place where change, transformation, or disconnection lingers. The 1990s and 1800s are two periods in history that were very deeply liminal.

✦ Liminality Includes:

  • Visual liminal spaces: empty parking lots at dusk, foggy trails, schools at night, a blue house in a sea of white houses, an abandoned shopping mall.

  • Psychological liminality: feeling detached from your life, no longer who you were but not yet someone new.

  • Narrative liminality: magical girls out of time, forgotten memories, dreams that almost feel real.

  • Social liminality: being online in silence, being “part of” but not truly “with.”

✦ Think of it like:

  • When a face is familiar but unplaceable.

  • When an action lingers in the silence after.

  • The breath between waking and sleep.

  • Alone, but not peaceful.

  • Siblinghood strained through distance or loss.

Liminality is the Liminal Space between words, the hallway between choices, the breath you hold before something changes.

🍂 Autumn is the Most Liminal Season 🍂
Autumn is called Fall because it is the fall of time. Nature begins to die. Rain and snow meet in quiet conflict, creating atmospheric anomalies. The scent of decay lingers in the air, and though we may not speak of it, we all feel it.

If winter is the season of death—when the world sleeps—then autumn is the slow, conscious unraveling before the end. It is no coincidence Halloween falls here.

And yet, we remain calm. We carve pumpkins. We roast squash—plants that flourish in soil turned cold and hollow. We wear sweaters, light candles, and pretend we do not see the world dimming.

Autumn is not death. It is the space before.
The quiet between.
The most liminal place in all of time.
Where everything falls.
